Kinja'd!!!

My neighbor texted me last night to say that he was firing up his smoker today and to ask if I had any meat I wanted to throw in. I happened to have some pork loin I was just about to freeze, so I took it over today. Mrs. Ttyymmnn had already seasoned the one on the left, and my neighbor took care of the other one. Damn, it smells good. Mrs. Ttyymmnn better get home soon before I eat it all myself.

You’re living the dream. I’ve always wanted to smoke meats, but never wanted to own a smoker. Oddly specific dream, but oh well.

I have another friend who is heavily into the whole thing. He’s got a wifi-controlled smoker that he constantly checks the temperature of when he’s at rehearsals. He also roasts his own coffee. I’ve had some, and it’s quite good. I just don’t have enough interest in doing it myself to learn how. And as long as my neighbor, who is really good at it, keeps asking, I’ll keep taking meats over there.

With beef prices so high, pork is a great substitute. You can buy a huge pork loin and for about $2/lb  cut it into three dinners. I usually just make a rub from salt, pepper, and garlic salt. Now I’m making myself hungry....

I limit myself to grilling hamburgers. Getting the charcoal going and cooking the burgers takes just about enough time to smoke a Punch London Club maduro. Although I don’t smoke any more.

Pork loin is a cheap feast, one of my favorite things to roast.  And super easy to make.  Great choice.

Both HEB and Costco sell a 5-6 lb pork loin that goes for about $2/lb. I can usually get three meals out of that. It’s a great bargain. Even chicken is getting more expensive.

12 lbs of brisket, done on Tuesday. No smoke ring this time (I’m not an expert) but no knife required. Half in the freezer now.
